Buổi lễ trao huy chương Legion of Merit (Degree of Commander) cho Thiếu Tướng Bùi Thế Lân

Vào lúc 5 giờ chiều ngày thứ Bảy 7 tháng 3 năm 2009 tại phòng họp của Đài phát thanh Radio Sàigòn trong khu thương mãi Southwest thành phố Houston đã tiếp đón 20 quan khách Hoa Kỳ và 40 quan khách Việt Nam đến tham dự buổi lễ trao huy chương Legion of Merit (Degree of Commander) replacement cho Thiếu Tướng Bùi Thế Lân, Tư Lệnh Sư Đoàn Thủy Quân Lục Chiến Việt Nam. Huy chương này đã được trao cho Chuẩn Tướng Bùi Thế Lân khi Sư Đoàn Thủy Quân Lục Chiến hoàn toàn làm chủ thị xã Quảng Trị vào tháng 9 năm 1972.

Sự hiện diện quý vị cao cấp các đơn vị của QLVNCH và một số anh em gia đình TQLC Houston làm buổi lễ như một niềm hãnh diện chung cho QLVNCH. Được biết huy chương cao quý này trao tặng cho Tướng Lãnh các quốc gia Đồng Minh với Hoa Kỳ.(hiện tại trên thế giới có 19 vị đã nhận huy chương này)

Vì số chổ có hạn định nên Thiếu Tướng TL đã không thể mời hết toàn thể gia đình Mũ Xanh của Houston và Vùng Phụ Cận tham dự.

Lt. Col. Emmett Sterling Huff USMC cựu Cố Vấn Tiểu Đoàn 8 TQLCVN giới thiệu Col. Gerald Turley, Maj Gen. William Eshelman, Maj. Gen. Bùi Thế Lân, Col. Micheal H. Harrington, Col. Nguyễn Thành Trí , tiếp sau đó tất cả mọi người cùng đứng dậy, trang nghiêm nghe Trung Tá Huff đọc bảng tuyên dương bằng Anh Ngữ
Sau đó Thiếu Tướng William Eshelman choàng huy chương Legion of Merit (Degree of Commander) trên cổ Thiếu Tướng Bùi Thế Lân. Thiếu Tướng Eshelman cho biết là bạn cùng khóa với Thiếu Tướng Bùi Thế Lân tại Quantico, khi ông về làm Cố Vấn cho TQLCVN, ông chỉ là Thiếu Tá, trong khi bạn cùng khóa với ông đã là Tướng Tư Lệnh Sư Đoàn Thủy Quân Lục Chiến Việt Nam
